Teaching

Qualification: Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs, BKO (Dutch University Teaching Qualification)

Teaching philosophy: My teaching approach is grounded in student-centred pedagogy, underscored by three fundamental philosophical pillars:

  1. Active Learning: Students are regarded as active participants in their learning process.

  2. Mutual Education: I believe in the collaborative nature of education, where learning flows both ways between teachers and students.

  3. Cognitive Emphasis: I prioritise the cognitive domain, focusing on activities that involve evaluating, analysing, and applying knowledge rather than mere remembering and understanding.

The primary objective of my approach is to nurture critical thinking, foster problem-solving skills, and cultivate autonomy, all while promoting collaboration among my students.

Through this pedagogy, I have built a teaching portfolio that includes designing, convening, and contributing to specialist and introductory courses across all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate study in International Relations, Global Political Economy and Middle Eastern Studies.

Supervision

As an experienced supervisor, I have a proven track record of guiding and mentoring Bachelor’s and Master’s level students through their academic pursuits. With a strong background in my expertise, I am well-equipped to provide insightful and informed feedback to assist my students in achieving their educational objectives.

My supervisory approach is founded on mutual respect and trust. I strive to establish a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel at ease expressing their ideas and opinions. I believe in promoting independent thinking and motivating my students to critically engage with their research topics while equipping them with the guidance and tools required to develop their unique perspectives.

Whether students require assistance with constructing effective research questions, collecting primary data, developing a theoretical framework, conducting research, or refining the structure of their thesis, I am dedicated to providing constructive feedback to support their growth and development. Through regular meetings, I collaborate closely with students to ensure they are on the right track and offer them the necessary resources and support to help them succeed.
